Project 02 - Office Feature Wall
The front office. This space was multifunctional and had served many different purposes over the years. When we first moved into this house we had 2 toddlers and a newborn. In our best efforts to keep the main floor tidy we used this room as the kid's playroom. The large window allowed for their curious minds and wandering eyes to explore, and box shelving was used for toy storage. As the kids grew and changed, so did the needs of our home. The boys were starting school and needed a workspace other than the kitchen table. Cam needed a space to work from home, and I began my schooling. It was time that this room grew up with us.
This project was my first real "risk". Yes, it was just paint, but it was on our walls. It is much more difficult to design for yourself because it is a direct expression of your personality, and you're the one living in it. However, I felt confident that adding a dark feature wall would tie into the other elements of our home and add sophistication. I was right. The matte black color gave the room a moody setting and added a lot of character. It was a daily reminder to myself as I sat in that office to design and create, that taking risks and betting on yourself is completely worth it. Every time you take a risk you learn something about yourself, and something about design. I learned that I was worth investing in.
