Project 01 - Gallery Wall

Our living room gallery wall was the most personal design piece I put together in our home. I'm a person who loves to reminisce, so going through years of photos and memories brought me so much joy! Another reason why this project meant so much to me was because in the 6 years Cam and I had been married, I had barely even hung a welcome sign on one of our walls.

We married young and were open to where the world was going to take us. This meant that we moved and rented, a lot. Because we did not know how long we would be in a place, I chose not to hang any personal photos on the wall. Doing so gave a sense of permanency and I didn't want to let myself put roots down unless I knew it was for the long haul. I'll admit that at one point I did crack and had finally put up our wedding photos. Wouldn't you know, 2 months later we found out we were moving again and it all had to come back down. By year 6 we had moved 6 times and now had 3 children, and with Cam's career taking off we decided to move again and purchased a house closer to work. It was here that I finally let myself put roots down and put pictures up.

Looking back I wish I would have been more intentional in making every place we lived feel like home. Because of these regrets I decided to leave some of our frames empty, as we were expecting our 4th child. I wanted room to grow. However, once the baby came we were in a new season of life that required more of our attention than the gallery wall. I'm here now, in a new city and a different home, humbly admitting that we packed up the gallery wall before those empty frames were filled.

This gallery wall remains my favourite personal piece I've designed and stands as a reminder that it is ok, that it is beneficial, to put roots down and that anywhere your family gathers can be called home.
